Los Angeles critics pick black British experience

Los Angeles Film Critics Association has chosen the black British experience offered by Steve McQueen.

Los Angeles Film Critics Association has chosen the black British experience 'Small Axe' offered by Steve McQueen.

The Los Angeles Film Critics Association on Sunday announced their picks for this year's best film, selecting 'Small Axe' series which is a giant leap forward for black British film-making.

The movie episodes made by the most celebrated British director of his generation were hailed as best picture and Steve Mcqueen named a runner-up for the five films.

Chloe Zhao was chosen as best director for 'Nomadland' and the runner-up to best picture.

The series appears to be aligned with the Black Lives Matter movement, depicting the UK's police brutality as well as the under-representation of black British experience outside London.

Last year, the Los Angeles critics picked Bong Joon-ho's 'Parasite' as the best film of 2019 which eventually took home the most awards at the Oscars 2020, including Best Picture.
